As you know, I am passionate about removing as many harmful substances from my family’s environment as possible, and that includes harmful ingredients in our cosmetics and personal care products (shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, makeup, etc.).
If you haven’t watched my free video on whether your cosmetics could be damaging your health (and, more importantly, how to spot safer ones), you can watch it here!
You may find these facts about the cosmetics industry quite shocking…
- Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.
- What’s worse is the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids every single day, day after day.
- The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
- The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11 to date.
When I first learned about the Beautycounter brand, I was SO excited. Beautycounter has banned more than 1,500 ingredients, setting a new health and safety standard. Their mission statement is to “Get safe products into the hands of everyone”. Beautycounter’s mission, and the fact they put health first when creating a product, really resonates with me. Not only that, Beautycounters products perform, and they’re as indulgent as any luxe shampoo, lipstick or oil in the market.
Beautycounter products are the perfect marriage between safety and performance.
Mia Davis is the Head of Health and Safety, and she was one of the champions of eliminating Bisphenol A (BPA) – an endocrine (hormone) disruptor that can potentially lead to birth defects and reproductive and developmental disorders – from plastic water bottles, children’s sippy cups, and baby bottles. She is SERIOUS about consumer safety, and as Head of Health and Safety for Beautycounter, she ensures all ingredients are screened for safety! Beautycounter believes in complete transparency, so every ingredient is listed on the label. Their “Never List” consists of ingredients that you will never find in its products.
Christy Coleman is a celebrity makeup artist (just scroll through her Instagram!), and she is Beautycounter’s Head of Creative Design. Because she uses these products on her clients and on set, they MUST work! Christy helps formulate Beautycounter’s products to make sure they perform. Often they spend many months or years getting a formula just right before a new product gets the stamp of approval!
Safe Cosmetics Movement
Beautycounter is a movement, one that is advocating change in the cosmetics industry – they have literally walked the halls of Congress to ask for stronger health-protective laws. I am proud to partner with this company to spread the word about safer cosmetics. Not only am I completely on board with their mission, I’m in love with so many of their products! As a self-confessed cosmetics junkie, I have tried a LOT of products in my lifetime, and I can confidently say BEAUTYCOUNTER ROCKS. It’s one thing if a product is safe, but it’s got to WORK… Am I right?!
So take a look at some of their gorgeous products. Check out their ratings in the EWG Skindeep Database (not sure what that is? My free video explains it all!) I’d love to know what you think! Interested in partnering with Beautycounter alongside me? Let’s chat!
